Our GAIA model handpan features the attributes that made handpans famous. A comfortable 20″ diameter size, nitrided steel, elegant form, and intoxicating sound. It has a beautifully resonant tone. Excellent for meditation, sound baths, and performance. The GAIA is available in 8 and 9 note designs.
Nitrided steel resists water* and creates a unique tone from the instrument. It is favored by many professional and experienced handpan players.
Steel: Low carbon steel, 20” diameter.
Finish: Blue/grey natural color created by heat and fire. The color of the finish can have unique variations due to the natural heating created by the flame.
Included: We also include a rubber ring and protective plastic Hard Hat with each GAIA. When necessary, we will also include a plastic Gu Booster to increase the Helmholtz bass tone that is emitted by the Gu hole on the bottom shell. The Gu Booster is usually only needed for scales that include D3 or Db3 Ding Notes. The natural Helmholtz frequency that is created from our bottom shell is close to an F#3 pitch. So, our F# Equinox scale does not need a Gu Booster since the bottom shell already resonates naturally at an F# pitch.
*Nitrided steel resists rust from water and perspiration but it is not recommended for high acid or high salt environments. Care must be taken to keep the steel rust free. Wipe the steel clean after use, store the instrument in a dry case or environment, and avoid playing near salt water. Frog Lube can be used to increase rust resistance. A small sample tube is included with each GAIA handpan. For the ultimate in rust resistance, our Luna Clarity finish resists water, mild acids, and salt water better than any finish we’ve tested.
